Thanks for taking the time to visit my website. I originally had my sounds up on the Reverbnation platform which was satisfactory but inevitably got swallowed up by FB. The resulting interface has always been messy, clunky and confusing. I also simply wanted to have an online space which was just more about the music and focused less on likes etc and hence to our meeting here.

Over the last decade I've been getting my head round recording a little here at home: originally on a 4 track Iphone App and then quickly progressing to a standalone Boss 8 track recorder. Fortunately, I'm a sucker for reading manuals cover to cover and, though it was very confusing initially, once I'd got to grips with the rudiments, I was off and running. The songs here are just demos and certainly don't represent a professional, studio recording set up. I am a novice at this still with much to learn. That said, I get a tremendous amount of satisfaction from the creation process: making something from nothing but your ideas and your ability to operate the multitrack. It never ever comes out quite how you imagined it in your head but it's always rewarding.

 

The Process...

My tunes always start with a riff and then I'll build a chord structure in and around that. If I'm smart, I'll think about a melody at this point but often it comes much later on. It's always been about rhythm with me from a very early age and so, although I can't play drums, I try to get as much going on in the rhythm department as possible to get the feel I'm after. In the older tunes I tried to use the inbuilt drum patterns but was never really satisfied and so in recent years I've employed all manner of  objects, blended together to get something groovy going. 

The lockdowns this past year have afforded me more time to spend on writing and recording: a silver lining to the upheaval it has caused and I am thankful to have had this unexpected opportunity.
